Communion Thursday (Hamis ix-Xirka)

Communion Thursday is the day falling on the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the apostles and when Jesus washed the feet of all the apostles. On the night before he died, Jesus instituted the Eucharist and at the same time established the Priesthood.

We also have a tradition of visiting seven churches (is-seba’ visti). The tradition of visiting seven churches on Holy Thursday is an ancient practice, probably originating in Rome, where early pilgrims visited the seven pilgrim churches as penance.
