Putting sentences together

A compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a conjunction.

Example:     I am not going to school.      I am sick.   (independent clauses)

These two short sentences can be joined together in one sentence using the conjunction ‘because‘.

I am not going to school because I am sick.(compound sentence)
